Music at Christmas celebrations in Huanta, Ayacucho: tunes and scissors dance

Abstract

This work is based on my experience as a musician, promoter and researcher of the musical practices of the Christmas tradition of the different towns in the province of Huanta, Ayacucho. Multiple cultural aspects are addressed: meaning, message, reasons for practice, musical sounds, history, clothing and everything that entails the cultural heritage of these festivals that, rooted in the heart of the town, go through significant changes and, at the same time, preserve their forms in tradition.
