Abstract

The Cusquenian Orquestín is a musical practice that consists of the group performance of a repertoire linked to both religious and social festive traditions in different locations in the department of Cusco, in a mixed and multicultural instrumental format. Basically, the instrumental composition of the Orquestín includes melodic instruments, such as the quena, violin and mandolin, harmonic instruments, such as the pampapiano, accordion and harp, and a set of rhythmic instruments grouped into a single instrument called yasbán. or jazz-band. Occasionally, the Orquestín may include a muted trumpet or saxophone as a roving instrument during the parade.

Author Biography

Luis Fernando Prudencio Mendoza, Universidad Nacional de Música

He is a violinist musician graduated from the Leandro Alviña Miranda Higher Institute of Music in Cusco and a bachelor's degree in Musicology from the National University of Music of Peru. He has integrated instrumental ensembles from the academic repertoire and at the same time was a support musician in various orchestras, actively participating in religious evenings and accompanying traditional dances in Cusco. In Lima, he joined the musical cast of the National Folklore Ensemble and experimental groups. He has been a member of the Peruvian Traditional Instruments Workshop of the National Conservatory of Music as a multi-instrumentalist. As a researcher he has published about the pampapiano in the journal Conservatorio and is focused on the analysis of traditional instrumentation forms in Andean music.
