Abstract

The present work is based on the observation and participation in the Christmas celebrations, during the years 2018 and 2020, in the district of El Carmen, province of Chincha, Ica region; and, mainly, on the festival of January 6, the day on which the birth of Melchorita is remembered and celebrated, in the district of Grocio Prado. Likewise, this study is based on the review of documentaries and bibliography on the subject, which is still scarce from a strictly musical point of view.

Author Biography

Ximena Venero Cruz, Universidad Nacional de Música

She is a flutist and violinist musician, fond of Afro-Peruvian zapateo. She has a degree in Recorder Performance from the National University of Music, where she is currently a teacher of that specialty. She is a member of the Suzuki Association of Peru. As a violinist she was a member of the Cusco Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Ensemble of Traditional Instruments of the José María Arguedas National Folklore School. She joined the Peruvian Traditional Instruments Workshop of the National University of Music of Peru as a multi-instrumentalist. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in Cultural Management at the University of Piura.
