Abstract

The present research constitutes a foundation for technical problems involved in learning Sonata for cello solo,op. 8 by Zoltán Kodály. As part of a larger research project, this paper addresses specific points of the learning process. It proposes the study of two broad thematic sections. The first is autoethnography, addressing different problems observed through personal experience as a musical performer, and the second is the presentation of practical solutions in order to technical-interpretative dificults in the sonata performance, selected through the introspective search of the learning process.

Author Biography

  • José Romero Ottonello, Universidad de la República, Uruguay; Universidad de Chiapas, México

    Graduate in Musical Performance, Violoncello specialty, from the University of the Republic – UdelaR (2016) and has a Master in Music, Cello-Performance specialty, from the University of Sciences and Arts of Chiapas – UNICACH (Mexico, 2019). As an instrumentalist, he has been First cello in groups such as Camerata Acadómica de Montevideo (Uruguay, 2015-2017), Orchestra of the Ministry of Education and Culture – MEC (2008-2010), National Symphony Orchestra of SODRE (Uruguay, 2013-2017) and the Latin American Philharmonic Camerata (Xalapa, Mexico, 2019); Grade 1 from UdelaR (Uruguay, 2011-2014); and soloist in concerts held in Uruguay, Chile, Brazil, Panama, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, the United States and Sweden. He won the Juventudes Musicales contest (Uruguay, 2012). He has obtained the SUDEI Scholarship for further studies (Uruguay, 2012 and 2017) and the Excellence Scholarship from the Government of Mexico for his master's studies. He was producer of the MVD Jazz Festival (Uruguay 2017-2018) and is currently a doctoral candidate in cello performance at Louisiana State University (United States).
