About plagiarism, conflict of interest and other ethical aspects
1. Plagiarism
Antec maintains a strict anti-plagiarism policy, which is applied from the initial review stage, known as the preliminary screening or relevance review phase. During this stage, the journal’s Editorial Team uses Turnitin to conduct a thorough similarity analysis of all submitted manuscripts. This service is applied to all manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening and are deemed suitable to proceed to peer review. The journal reserves the right to reject any submission that exceeds the maximum similarity threshold of 10% established by Antec, excluding properly cited references and quotations.
2. Conflict of Interest
At Antec: Revista Peruana de Investigación Musical, it is essential that authors, editors responsible for manuscript handling, and both internal and external reviewers disclose any conflicts of interest that may affect the manuscript or its review, evaluation, or approval process. If authors declare a conflict of interest, this information will be communicated to the reviewers. Likewise, potential reviewers who identify a conflict of interest with the authors or the subject matter of the manuscript are expected to decline the review invitation.
Antec is committed to selecting reviewers who are appropriate in terms of academic expertise and subject relevance. In cases of dispute or controversy, the Editorial Team will act as the responsible body to resolve the matter. The journal will take all reasonable measures to identify and prevent the publication of manuscripts involving research misconduct. Under no circumstances will the journal knowingly encourage or permit unethical behavior.
If the journal’s editor or editors receive allegations of editorial misconduct, such allegations will be addressed appropriately. This may include the withdrawal or correction of articles, as well as the publication of corrections, clarifications, retractions, or apologies, where necessary. To resolve disputes, Antec will follow the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), when appropriate.
3. Ethical Standards
All individuals involved in the publication process of Antec must adhere to the following ethical and professional standards:
3.1. Editorial Team
- The Editorial Team has the obligation to ensure that all editorial processes are conducted in a fair, honest, impartial, transparent, orderly, and timely manner.
- Manuscripts must be evaluated and selected objectively, based solely on their academic quality and scholarly merit. No discrimination shall be made on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, nationality, or any other personal characteristic of the author.
- The Editorial Team is committed to appointing at least two independent external reviewers for each manuscript. Reviewers will be selected based on their academic qualifications, expertise in the relevant field, and absence of relationships that could compromise the objectivity and impartiality of the peer-review process.
- The Editorial Team must inform authors in a timely manner of the outcome of the evaluation process and keep them updated on the status of their manuscript during production.
- The Team has the duty to preserve the confidentiality of all documents and communications submitted by authors and collaborators. The use of unpublished material for personal benefit without the explicit consent of the respective contributors is strictly prohibited.
- Members of the Editorial Team are required to disclose any potential conflict of interest that may arise in the evaluation of a manuscript or in other editorial processes. Such conflicts may be personal, political, professional, institutional, or of another nature. Editors must refrain from handling a manuscript if they have collaborated in its preparation or maintain a close relationship with the author.
3.2. Authors
- Plagiarism and self-plagiarism are strictly prohibited. This includes the intentional or unintentional copying, improper citation, or reuse of content created by third parties or previously developed by the author in other works without appropriate acknowledgment. If total or partial plagiarism is detected in a submitted manuscript, the submission will not be considered for publication. The reuse of the author’s own previously published content will only be accepted if it is properly cited and justified. If the manuscript derives from or constitutes an advancement of a previously circulated academic working paper, this must be clearly indicated at the beginning of the submitted article.
- The journal does not accept manuscripts that have been previously published or that are under simultaneous consideration by other research journals. If such situations are detected, the matter will be investigated and addressed in accordance with the guidelines recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
- Authors may include images, musical scores, figures, or other visual materials deemed necessary for the development of their article, provided that they are relevant and that authors clearly specify whether such materials are original or properly cite their source.
- In the case of co-authored manuscripts, the submitting author is understood to have obtained the consent of all co-authors and to have listed them according to the relative significance of their contribution, beginning with the principal contributor.
- Authors must disclose any financial or personal support received from institutions or individuals in the preparation of their work.
- Authors are fully responsible for the content of their submitted and published manuscripts. It is assumed that submissions are made in good faith and without intent to harm or unduly benefit any specific entity, unless proven otherwise.
- During the copyediting and formatting stages, Antec may provide authors with revised versions of their manuscript that involve changes in style, formatting, or academic presentation, without altering the substantive content. It is the author’s responsibility to review and approve these modifications. By returning the approved version to the Editorial Team, the author formally authorizes the implementation of such changes for publication.
- By signing the “Declaration of Intellectual Property, Originality, and Publication” and the “Open Science Compliance Form,” authors acknowledge their exclusive economic rights over the work and authorize its publication and dissemination under the journal’s established terms. If authors wish to republish the corrected, formatted, and published version of their article in another venue, they must inform Antec accordingly.
- Authors are not permitted to commercially exploit the corrected, formatted, and published version of the article without prior authorization from Antec, as the costs of copyediting, layout, and publication have been assumed by the journal for dissemination through its official platforms, whether digital or print.
- In the event of disputes concerning authorship of a submitted or published manuscript, the Editorial Team will proceed in accordance with the relevant COPE flowcharts and recommendations.
3.3. Other Contributors
- Academic reviewers participating in the peer-review process must treat all materials received as confidential. They are not permitted to discuss, share, or disclose information about the manuscript with third parties, nor to contact the authors directly without explicit authorization from the Editorial Team. Additionally, they may not use the ideas, arguments, or unpublished information contained in the manuscript for personal or professional advantage without the author’s permission.
- Reviewers must evaluate manuscripts based on objective academic criteria, excluding personal bias or prejudice.
- By accepting a review assignment, reviewers commit to complying with the deadlines established by the Editorial Team. In exceptional circumstances, they may request an extension, which will be subject to the Team’s approval.
