Types of Manuscripts
1. Types of Manuscripts Accepted
ANTEC: Revista Peruana de Investigación Musical welcomes original manuscripts relevant to the journal’s scope for each issue, in accordance with national and international editorial and indexing standards. Manuscripts may be submitted in either Spanish or English and are accepted exclusively through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, which serves as the official system for the submission, tracking, and management of the editorial process.
The journal accepts the following types of contributions:
- Research Articles
- Dossier
- Book Reviews
1.1. Research Articles
This section publishes original research articles, review articles, and meta-analyses that contribute to the generation, systematization, and critical analysis of knowledge in the field of music and related disciplines.
1.1.1. Original Research Article
An original research article presents original findings or innovative results derived from completed research projects. Manuscripts should generally follow the IMRaD structure (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion). Authors should observe the following guidelines:
- Title. The title should be clear, concise, and consistent with the purpose of the study. It must be provided in both English and Spanish (maximum length: 20 words).
- Abstract. The abstract should summarize the most significant aspects of the study, including its purpose, methodology, principal findings, and conclusions (maximum length: 200 words).
- Keywords. Authors must provide keywords in both English and Spanish that accurately describe the content of the manuscript. The use of terms drawn from recognized subject headings or specialized music thesauri is strongly recommended (maximum: five keywords in each language).
- Introduction. The introduction should clearly identify the research problem and establish the significance of the study. The argument should be coherent, relevant, and supported by an appropriate review of the scholarly literature.
- Methods. This section should address the question, How was the research conducted? It should describe the sample or corpus, research instruments, and procedures employed in the study. Any supplementary information regarding the methodology or analytical techniques should be submitted as an additional file within the associated research dataset.
- Results. Results should be presented clearly and systematically, using tables, figures, or graphs whenever appropriate. Only findings relevant to the objectives of the study should be reported. Redundancy between tables, figures, and the main text should be avoided.
- Discussion. This section should interpret the findings and explain their contribution to the field. Under the subheading Conclusions, authors should summarize the principal implications of the study, acknowledge its limitations, and propose directions for future research.
- Citations and References. All in-text citations must correspond to entries in the reference list, and all references must be cited in the text. References should conform to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition.
- Appendix. Appendices should be cited in the main text and contain supplementary material prepared by the author.
- Supplementary Material. This section includes additional materials that are not essential to the main body of the manuscript but may be of interest to specific readers. Authors are responsible for ensuring that all copyright requirements have been satisfied.
1.1.2. Review Articles and Meta-Analyses
Review articles and meta-analyses present the current state of knowledge on a given topic and include critical reflections or theoretical and conceptual contributions related to the journal’s thematic areas. These manuscripts analyze, synthesize, and integrate findings from previously published research or from studies available in other formats (e.g., preprints or technical reports), thereby identifying relationships, inconsistencies, and gaps in the existing literature. They should also propose directions for future research.
Such manuscripts are characterized by a comprehensive and rigorous review of the scholarly literature. ANTEC: Revista Peruana de Investigación Musical welcomes submissions that follow the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, which promote transparency and completeness in the reporting of systematic reviews. Although these articles may follow the conventional IMRaD structure (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion), authors are encouraged to observe the following general guidelines:
- Title. The title should be clear, concise, informative, and consistent with the purpose of the study. It must be provided in both English and Spanish (maximum length: 20 words).
- Abstract. The abstract should summarize the principal aspects of the study, including the methodology and the main conclusions (maximum length: 200 words).
- Keywords. Authors must provide keywords in both English and Spanish that accurately describe the content of the manuscript. The use of terms drawn from recognized subject headings or specialized music thesauri is strongly recommended (maximum: five keywords in each language).
- Introduction. This section should clearly define the research problem, provide the necessary background, state the objectives of the review, and justify the relevance of the study.
- Main Body. This section should describe the methodology used to identify, select, and evaluate the literature included in the review. Authors should specify the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the databases consulted, and the search strategies employed, including keywords and Boolean operators. The procedures used to assess the quality of the selected studies should also be explained. The results of the review should then be presented in a systematic manner, integrating the available evidence to identify patterns, relationships, inconsistencies, and gaps in the literature.
- Conclusions. This section should synthesize the principal findings of the review and highlight their implications for research and professional practice in the field. Authors are also encouraged to discuss the limitations of the study and propose directions for future research. Where supplementary material or additional information concerning the methods or techniques discussed is available, it should be submitted as a supplementary file within the associated research dataset to facilitate access to resources that enhance the understanding of the study.
- References.
This section includes additional materials that are not essential to the main body of the manuscript but may be relevant to particular readers.
1.2. Dossier
The Dossier section offers a thematic focus on a specific topic with the aim of fostering scholarly exchange, academic collaboration, and critical reflection among specialists in music and related disciplines. It is conceived as a forum for discussion of issues of particular relevance to the field, as well as for the dissemination of research outcomes, critical essays, and other contributions related to the proposed theme.
This section welcomes a variety of contribution types, including reflective essays, review articles, book reviews, interviews, photographic essays, and other scholarly or documentary formats that enrich academic dialogue and promote a broader understanding of the topic under consideration. Given the flexible nature of this section, contributors are encouraged, whenever appropriate, to include the following elements: title, abstract, keywords, and a brief contextual introduction. Scholarly manuscripts, such as research articles or essays, may follow the journal’s recommended article structure as appropriate to the nature of the submission. Non-textual contributions, such as image galleries or musical scores, should be accompanied by an explanatory text that provides context, explains their relevance, and situates the contribution within the thematic framework of the dossier.
Research articles included in the Dossier section are subject to peer review in accordance with the editorial and scholarly quality standards established by ANTEC: Revista Peruana de Investigación Musical and with the criteria promoted by major indexing services and academic databases. This evaluation process ensures the methodological rigor, originality, thematic relevance, and scholarly quality of all manuscripts accepted for publication.
2.1. Acceptance Criteria for Preprint Manuscripts
Authors wishing to submit a manuscript that has previously been disseminated as a preprint should comply with the following requirements:
- The corresponding author must indicate whether the manuscript has been deposited in a recognized preprint server and provide the name of the platform, the DOI, and the corresponding URL.
- This information must be reported in the Open Science Compliance Form and in the official author forms required by ANTEC: Revista Peruana de Investigación Musical. These documents must be submitted together with the manuscript.
- Authors must also disclose the manuscript’s editorial history, including the date on which it was deposited or made publicly available on the preprint server.
- Because the identity of the authors is publicly available through the preprint, the double-anonymous peer review model cannot be applied. Accordingly, manuscripts will be evaluated either through single-anonymous peer review or open peer review.
- Once the article has been published in the journal, authors are encouraged to update the preprint version by adding the complete bibliographic reference and a link to the published version in order to ensure that the final version of record is properly cited.
