1.1. Research Articles
Scientific research articles, as well as review articles and meta-analyses, are published in this section.
1.1.1. Scientific Research Article
A document presenting original results or innovative findings derived from completed research projects. The IMRaD structure (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion) is generally applied. The submission guidelines are as follows:
- Title. Coherent, concise, and aligned with the purpose of the study. It must be provided in both English and Spanish (maximum length: 17–20 words).
- Abstract. Summarizes the most relevant aspects of the study, including purpose, methodology, results, and conclusions (maximum length: 150–200 words).
- Keywords. A maximum of five keywords describing the content of the document, in Spanish and English. The use of terms recommended by subject headings or specialized music thesauri is encouraged.
- Introduction. Clearly identifies the research problem and highlights the relevance of the study. The argument must be coherent and supported by background information and an appropriate literature review.
- Methods. Addresses the question of how the research problem was studied, identifying the sample, instrument, or procedures used. If supplementary technical information is available, it must be included in the Dataset as a complementary file.
- Results. Presents findings relevant to the study’s objectives in a clear and organized manner using tables, graphs, or figures (avoid repeating information in both tables and text).
- Discussion. Interprets the results obtained and addresses the contribution of the study. Under the heading Conclusions, the main implications of the study should be established, limitations discussed, and recommendations for future research proposed.
- Citations and References. There must be consistency between in-text citations and the reference list, in accordance with APA Style (7th ed.).
- Appendix. Must be mentioned in the main text and contains information produced by the author.
- Annexes. A section containing information independent from the main topic of the document but relevant to certain readers. Authors must ensure they hold the appropriate copyright permissions.
1.1.2. Review Article or Meta-Analysis
These documents present the state of the art, including critical reflections or theoretical and conceptual proposals related to the journal’s thematic areas. They analyze, systematize, and integrate the results of published research or materials available in other formats (such as preprints or technical reports), enabling the identification of relationships, inconsistencies, or gaps in the research topic, and proposing directions for future studies.
These articles are characterized by conducting a comprehensive and rigorous literature review. Submissions applying the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) protocol are accepted, as it ensures transparency and thoroughness in systematic literature reviews.
Although these articles may follow the traditional IMRaD structure, the following general guidelines are recommended:
- Title. Coherent, concise, and informative. It must be provided in both English and Spanish (maximum length: 17–20 words).
- Abstract. Should summarize key aspects such as methodology and conclusions (maximum length: 200–300 words).
- Keywords. A maximum of five keywords describing the content of the document, in Spanish and English. The use of terms recommended by subject headings or specialized music thesauri is encouraged.
- Introduction. Clearly presents the research problem, providing the necessary context, objectives of the analysis, and justification for the study.
- Main Body. Describes the methodology used for identifying, selecting, and evaluating the analyzed documents, including inclusion and exclusion criteria, consulted databases, and search strategies such as keywords and Boolean operators. It should also explain the process used to assess the quality of the selected studies. Subsequently, the results of the review should be presented in an organized manner, integrating the knowledge generated and identifying patterns, relationships, inconsistencies, or gaps in the reviewed literature.
- Conclusions. Synthesizes the most relevant findings of the analysis, highlighting their implications for research or professional practice in the field. A reflection on the study’s limitations and suggestions for future research is recommended. If the analysis includes supplementary material related to the techniques presented, it must be attached as a complementary file in the Dataset.
- References. There must be consistency between in-text citations and the reference list, in accordance with APA Style (7th ed.).
- Appendix. Must be mentioned in the main text and contains information produced by the author.
- Annexes. A section containing information independent from the main topic of the document but relevant to certain readers.
1.2. Manuscripts for the Thematic Dossier
This section offers a perspective on a specific topic, promoting the exchange of ideas and collaboration among experts in the field of music. It is designed to foster debate and reflection on relevant topics and to present the results of experiences, essays, or critical analyses.
The dossier may include various types of content, such as reflection or review articles, reviews, photographs, interviews, or other formats that contribute to enriching dialogue and understanding of the topic addressed.
1.3. Research on Musical Practices
Articles related to pedagogical practice are accepted, focusing on artistic techniques that strengthen social relationships and highlight cultural values. These works are supported by documentary reviews and research experiences that explore and reinforce such practices, contributing to the development and understanding of musical dynamics in educational and social contexts.
1.4. Book and Journal Reviews
This section provides an original critical perspective on a book or journal, presenting a well-founded evaluation of its content to guide the reader. The review should analyze relevant aspects of the text, such as its structure, main arguments, contributions to the field, and possible limitations.
1.5. Preprint Articles
Preprints are manuscripts ready to be submitted to a journal that are deposited in an open-access web server for dissemination and discussion prior to formal peer-reviewed publication. The same criteria and requirements applicable to research articles apply to preprints.
Researchers wishing to submit a preprint article must consider the following:
- Authors must indicate whether the manuscript has been deposited in a reliable preprint server, including its name and DOI. This information must be provided in the Open Science Conformity Form and submitted along with the manuscript.
- Due to the nature of the manuscript, author identities are known; therefore, double-blind peer review no longer applies. Instead, single-blind or open peer review may be conducted.
-
Authors must also indicate the article’s processing history, including the date of upload as a preprint.
