ReviewsAbstract
The appearance of a book like Identidades, liderazgos y transgresiones en la música peruana aims to highlight the development of musicology in Peru, despite the difficult conditions that this discipline has to establish itself in our environment. This development has to do with an ever-increasing theoretical production and the appearance of new researchers, as well as with the creation of a Master's Degree in Musicology, the emergence of a Peruvian Association of Musicology (ASPEMUS in spanish) and the production of a first congress. This aims to energize and generate a movement that makes visible the initiatives and work that is being carried out. It should be added that, as a general framework, this book is also situated in a moment of reconfiguration and expansion of study focuses, which had been absent in the academic debate. We are not only faced with a book that seeks a greater inclusion of musical genres, but, above all, new angles to approach the musical phenomenon. The great absence in the book is the study of Amazonian genres, but, on the other hand, it is remarkable to find approaches from gender theory for the study of Andean music and the musical practices of LGBTI communities.
