Abstract

The Cusquenian Orquestín is a musical practice that consists of the group performance of a repertoire linked to both religious and social festive traditions in different locations in the department of Cusco, in a mixed and multicultural instrumental format. Basically, the instrumental composition of the Orquestín includes melodic instruments, such as the quena, violin and mandolin, harmonic instruments, such as the pampapiano, accordion and harp, and a set of rhythmic instruments grouped into a single instrument called yasbán. or jazz-band. Occasionally, the Orquestín may include a muted trumpet or saxophone as a roving instrument during the parade.
