On December 9, 1924, President Augusto B. Leguía held a ceremony commemorating the centenary of the Battle of Ayacucho, where Peru and part of South America gained their independence. A short hymn, written by Severino Sedó, was sung at the central ceremony organized by Leguía's government.
Coinciding with the commemorations of the events, Pío Max Medina Cárdenas, a lawyer and politician, published in 1924 a work entitled Ayacucho, Homenaje a la grana empresa de la participa política, en el centenario de la batalla de 9 de diciembre de 1824, which included the text of the Hymn of the Bicentennial of the Battle of Ayacucho.
