The musician was born in Arequipa around 1784 and was a renowned composer of sacred vocal music and salon music, as a guitarist and cellist. Recently, his chamber works and more than thirty symphonies were discovered, a corpus that constitutes a unique case in all of America at the beginning of the 19th century.
