Abstract

It was found in one of the albums of Professor Hilda Vargas Midolo, who was a music teacher in Arequipa, active in the second half of the 20th century and who died in the late 1990s. The album was given during her lifetime to Amílcar Victoria Pacheco, a singer who is the current owner. In 1999, he lent the album to musicologist Zoila Elena Vega Salvatierra who found this song (pp. 138-139) in the aforementioned notebook, along with one by Pablo Chávez Aguilar and some by other Arequipa composers. It was copied by hand by a person who only indicates his initials “M. D.” and performed it between October 27 and 30, 1936. In turn, Dr. Vega Salvatierra has provided a copy of the piece to be published in the present issue of ANTEC, a Peruvian music research journal of the National University of Music, commemorating the centenary of the death of the illustrious Arequipa composer.
